Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) Practice Exam

Determining the degree to which the client's life is affected is crucial because it helps clarify the impact of excessive Internet use on various aspects of the client's functioning. Understanding this impact enables the social worker to assess the severity of the issue, including how it may be affecting the client’s relationships, work, mental health, and overall quality of life. By establishing this baseline, the social worker can better evaluate the need for intervention, identify appropriate support strategies, and develop a treatment plan that is tailored to the client's specific circumstances.

Focusing on the effects allows for a more objective assessment rather than relying solely on the client's acknowledgment or previous treatment history. While acknowledging concerns and understanding triggers are important, they are secondary to understanding the overall impact of excessive Internet use on the client's life. This prioritization ensures that the social worker addresses the most pressing issues first, leading to a more effective and supportive therapeutic relationship.
